NEW HAMPSHIRE STATE MEET

Aidan Cox Leaves New Hampshire On Top With 3,200 Victory

By Mary Albl of DyeStat

Aidan Cox wrapped up an historic New Hampshire prep career Saturday at the New Hampshire Meet of Championships, held at Oyster River High.

It only seemed fitting that Cox went out a winner. The Coe-Brown senior and University of Virginia commit won the 3,200-meter title in 9:00.32, winning by 15 seconds. He was also part of the winning 4x800 relay (8:08.38). A week earlier at the Division II state meet he led Coe-Brown to the program’s fourth straight title, setting meet records in the 1,600 (4:12.22) and 3,200 (8:57.63).

While Cox has left his mark on the New Hampshire running scene, so has Gilford’s Patrick Gandini and Lebanon’s Birhanu Harriman. Gandini, who is committed to the Navy, won the 1,600 in 4:14.80 and was third in the 800 (1:57.99). Harriman, who will run for Georgetown this fall, was second in the 3,200 (9:15.35).

AJ Sebastien of Manchester Central swept the boys sprints with 10.87 (-3.2) in the 100 and 22.45 in the 200.

In girls action on Saturday, Aida Wheat of Kennett won the 100 (12.20) and 200 (25.00).

Harriet Barber of Manchester Central won the 400 in 58.17 and placed second in the 200. A week earlier she won the Division 1 400 in a state-leading time of 56.20.

Jordan Wheaton from Pinkerton won the 100 hurdles in 14.46.

Portsmouth Christian’s Brianna Malone won the 800 (2:13.49).

The top six in each event have the opportunity to advance to the New England Track and Field Championships in Bangor, Maine, Saturday June 10.
